When you ship a box to someone in another country or time zone, do you worry if it will get there?
That’s not your job. That’s the job of your delivery service. Your job is to figure out what to put inside that box so you can delight the person on the other side.
If UPS and FedEx provide hassle-free delivery of physical goods with a range of delivery and pricing options, why can’t it be done for digital content?
- Why do majority of BusinessWeek’s 100 global brands, have poor or missing functionality in other language versions of their website as compared to the English version? If the website was done well once, why did they not deliver it consistently for all cultures?
- Why does Engineering get involved in changing an existing website for multiple audiences? They did it once. That should be enough.
- Why can’t Marketing control the text and probe new markets without waiting for lengthy release cycles and upfront investments? Customers cannot wait for Engineering if the business offering has not changed in any way.
- Why can’t we provide multiple delivery options to suit businesses of all sizes? Not every business can pay for software and per word for professional translation.
Last year we asked ourselves these questions when marketing one of our products. We’re based in India, a country with 22 official languages! Our product was popular with users who spoke different Indian languages, and with users from Arabic speaking countries. We wanted to launch our website in multiple languages, in a few hours not weeks! We couldn’t find a solution, and finally decided it’s time to solve this for everyone.
